MARRIED NAMES IN MEXICAN CULTURE

Tradition or custom is something that has been done for a long time and becomes part of the life of a community group, usually from a country, culture, time, or same religion. The most basic thing of tradition is the information that is passed on from generation to generation both written and (often) verbally, because without this, a tradition can become extinct.

Mexicans are free to choose their marriage partner. However, informally there are some rules that limit choices, especially those related to class or status of their family and their ethnicity. Mexican people, usually get married after a formal engagement period which can take several years.

In Latin America, including Mexico. There is a culture name after a women getting married. When a Mexican’s women marries, she keeps her maiden name and adds her husband’s name after the word “de” .

Example (before married) :
Man : Mario Maurer
Woman : Yevi Elok Fortuna (maiden name)
Change to be (after married) :
Man : Mario Maurer
Woman : Yevi Elok Fortuna de Maurer

When children are born, the name order is as follows : given name, father’s family name, mother’s family name.

Example :
Children given name : Muhamad Rasyid Galaxy
Father’s name : Mario Maurer
Mother’s name : Yevi Elok Fortuna  (maiden name)

One thousand reasons why do parents give name to their children. Some parents want their children’s name appropriate with religion attitude, want to look cool,  even the parents give the name in order to show "who" their parents are. Give a good name to the children, hope that the children have a good personality too.

If I have a male child, I would give him name with Muhamad Rasyid Galaxy. Muhamad is the Prophet of Islam. Rasyid is from Arabian word, the meaning is smart and diligent. Not only has a good meaning, but it also has a good sound. Galaxy has meaning, my son will be high, strong, brave, good looking, has everything and amazing.

If I have a female child, I would give her name with Rosie Daisy Fortuna. Rosie is from Rose. A red rose is unmistakable expression of love.  Rose’s meaning is beautiful, enthusiastic, awesome, good looking, dare, confident, loveable and bring people to happiness. Daisy means, beautiful, friendly and kindly. Daisies symbolize innocence and purity. This stems from an old Celtic legend. According to the legend, whenever an infant died, God sprinkled daisies over the earth to cheer the parents up. Fortuna is my the last name, so i would give my the last name to my future children with hope she will be a lucky person.
