MARRIED NAMES IN MEXICAN CULTURE






Tradition or custom is something that has been done for a long time and becomes part of the life of a community group, usually from a country, culture, time, or same religion. The most basic thing of tradition is the information that is passed on from generation to generation both written and (often) verbally, because without this, a tradition can become extinct.

Mexicans are free to choose their marriage partner. However, informally there are some rules that limit choices, especially those related to class or status of their family and their ethnicity. Mexican people, usually get married after a formal engagement period which can take several years.

In Latin America, including Mexico. There is a culture name after a women getting married. When a Mexican’s women marries, she keeps her maiden name and adds her husband’s name after the word “de” .

Example (before married) :
Man : Mario Maurer
Woman : Yevi Elok Fortuna (maiden name)
Change to be (after married) :
Man : Mario Maurer
Woman : Yevi Elok Fortuna de Maurer

When children are born, the name order is as follows : given name, father’s family name, mother’s family name.

Example :
Children given name : Muhamad Rasyid Galaxy
Father’s name : Mario Maurer
Mother’s name : Yevi Elok Fortuna  (maiden name)
The children’s name change to be :
Children name : Rasyid Maurer Fortuna.
This affects how they fill out forms in the United States.
