CHAPTER 7
Soon after that,
Forrest leaving the army early. But all this time, Forrest was thinking about
Jenny Curran. Just before Forrest left the hospital in Danang, he had a letter
from her. She was now playing in a group called The Broken Eggs. Now that he
was free from the army, he just wanted to go and see her. So he got a ticket
for Boston, instead of Mobile. It was in the afternoon, and the man behind the
bar said, Jenny will be here about nine o’clock.’ The group started playing
again and Jenny began to sing. Later, Forrest went outside and he plays his
harmonica. Suddenly, a door behind him opened ─ and there was Jenny!. Forrest
Gump and Jenny Curran were met. Jenny said that she stays with her boyfriend,
Rudolph. Then one day, Forrest came back to the flat and Jenny was sitting on
the floor, and Jenny tell that Rudolph has leave her.
CHAPTER 8
One night Forrest was sitting outside the Hodaddy Club,
smoking a cigarette, when a girl smiled and came up to him. She sat down across
his legs and put her arms round him. She was laughing and kissing Forrest. Suddenly,
the door opened behind him, and there was Jenny. She didn’t speak to Forrest
again that night. Forrest went to find Jenny’s address in Washington DC. He met
Jenny in the car, then she opened the car door for him and they sat and talked.
Next morning, she woke me up, and want Forrset to come with Jenny’s team today,
and Jenny want Forrest to wear his army clothes, because he is going to do
something to stop all the killing in Vietnam. Forrest had to throw away his
medal with the other American soldiers. It was the doctors at the hospital who decided
to send me to NASA ─ that’s the space centre at Houston, in Texas. ‘You’re just
the kind of person that they’re looking for!’ the doctors told Forrest. Soon,
he understood why! NASA sent me on a journey into space with a woman and an
ape! Me, a spaceman! It was very strange. All kinds of things went wrong
because of that ape. But the ape and I were soon good friends. His name was
Sue. Then, it was in the jungle that I met Big Sam ─ a man who taught me to
play chess. And that was important, as you will see later.
CHAPTER 9
Jenny Curran went to Indianapolis. Got a job at the Temperer
factory. He asked about Jenny at the office, and the woman said, ‘Yes, she works
in here. Then Jenny came out. Jenny and Forrest were together again. Next day, when Jenny went to work, Forrest went to the bar. Several people wanted to try arm-wrestling with Forrest, and he agreed. None of them won. After about a month, Forrest was winning nearly two
hundred dollars a week, arm-wrestling. Then one day a man called Mike came into
the bar. ‘You can make a lot more money,’ he told Forrest. But then he did something
stupid again. Forrest bet on myself winning a fight, after Mike told me to lose it.
Jenny got really angry. ‘It isn’t honest,’ she said. Forrest didn’t listen her . When he got back to the flat, Jenny was gone, and there was a letter waiting for Forrest.
It said: Dear Forrest, You are doing something bad tonight.
It isn’t honest, and I cannot go on with you like this. I think about having a
house and a family and things like that now. I watched you grow up big and
strong and good. And then, in Boston, I realized that I loved you, and I was
the happiest girl in the world. But then there was that girl outside the
Hodaddy Club. Then you went up 31 into space and I lost you for four years, and
I think you changed. And I think perhaps I changed, too. I just want to live in
an ordinary way now. So, I must go and find it. I am crying while I write this,
but please don’t try to find me. Goodbye, my dear. love, Jenny And for the
first time ever, I knew that I was a real idiot.
